Eyesight is the most beautiful gift for humans, as it lets us experience the majestic creations of nature.
But, how many of us do actually take care of our eyes like we should? Rather, when was the last time you seriously gave thought to your lifestyle habits that are actually causing a devastating impact on your eyesight?
In article we are going to talk about a few of those habits which you need to change in your life to keep your eyes healthy and vision correct for years to come. So, let us take a look at what those changes are:
Stay away from smoking
‘People who smoke are at a 50% higher risk of getting diseases like macular degeneration than the ones who don’t.’
In order to keep your eyesight healthy for as long as possible, one of the first habits you need to part ways with is smoking (yuck!). It also leads to rise of eye sight problems like cataract and ultimately vision loss in extreme cases. Plus, studies have shown that it causes irritability in the eyes and may lead to dry eye syndrome.
Limit your alcohol intake
Consuming large quantities of alcohol on regular basis can lead to rise of various eye conditions. Alcohol dehydrates the body, so people who consume alcohol regularly have high probability from facing problems like dry eyes. Also, alcohol makes the body prone to eyesight problems like amblyopia and even optic nerve diseases as well.
Control your blood sugar levels
Even if you are not diabetic, by indulging yourself with foods that are full of unhealthy fats and sugars, you are putting your body at risk of blood sugar fluctuations, which makes your body prone to diabetes. If you don’t keep your blood sugar levels from fluctuating, then the chances of you developing eyesight conditions like glaucoma, cataract, and more increases significantly.
Eat right
Nutrition is the biggest factor that plays role in keeping eyesight healthy. If you don’t eat right, then you can never be certain to have good eyesight for long. Adding foodstuff like green vegetables, and fruits has been well known to all of us for maintaining healthy eyesight. But also adding items rich in omega 3 fatty acids like tuna, salmon etc., can be the first dietary change you need to bring in your lifestyle in order to ensure that you maintain your healthy eyesight.
And, we must never ignore the importance of having regular eye check-ups, just to be certain that there are no unwanted pathologies that might appear without our knowing about it.
So, those were some of the simple lifestyle habits you can make part of your life to have healthier eyesight. But, the irony is that in many parts of the world, people have no awareness about how they are damaging their vision by not being cautious about these lifestyle habits.
Thanks to the efforts being put forward by pioneers like Dr. John Haines, and more like him who are trying to spread awareness about eye problems, there has been a wave of change. Let’s keep this movement going and keep this wave growing stronger and stronger.
